“Cut Me Loose” is my latest single and an important part of a larger body of work — the upcoming album More Than Funk. It’s not a standalone track taken out of context, but part of a long-term narrative I’m building, release by release.

The song is a groovy disco/funk record (120 BPM), driven by a distinctive bassline, tight drums and string arrangements. I wanted to create a listener track — a song meant for repeated listening and emotional connection, rather than a functional club tool.

A key element of the record is the vocal performance by Jozy, a vocalist from Tanzania. The vocals for “Cut Me Loose” were recorded during a stay in Zanzibar, using a simple hotel room setup instead of a traditional studio. The place, the people and the context had a real impact on the character of the recording and its emotional depth.
